Hunting, fishing, foraging and crafting was and still is when possible, a traditional livelihood and a way of life by Inari-Sámi people. Your artesan, Tiia, is part of an Inari Sámi family and has a deep personal connection to the local culture and traditions.
Use traditional nature’s materials like reindeer and fish leather, fur, wool, wood, bone and plants to craft something beautiful and practical to take home. We plan the possible craft with our quests depending on the hopes of the visitor as well as the material choices we have available. We do not teach tyeiji (duodji), but the everyday-craftsmanship of the northern people.
During the workshop we use the materials that we have gotten from our other activities like fishing and hunting. When we take something from the nature, we use it as well as possible, and give something back.
For a whole day program it is possible to participate in tanning of the fur and the leather. In a half day program we do the chosen craft.
