Find yourself – in the Land of the Midnight Sun in Luosto

In June and July, Luosto bathes in the light of the midnight sun. The sun never sets, and the fell landscape softens into an inviting blend of colours and scents. On the fells, the hues shift with the rhythm of the day, while the old forests glow in their vibrant summer greenery.
Here, in the peace and stories of Pyhä-Luosto National Park, you can experience something truly new.

Take a refreshing dip in the pure waters of Lake Aarnilampi during your Luosto holiday and admire the fell scenery under the gentle, endless light of the midnight sun.

Journey Through the Wild Heart of Luosto

Rocky hilltops and deep gorges dominate the scenery, giving the Pyhä–Luosto area its distinctive character—just under a two-hour bus ride from Rovaniemi. The peaks of the Pyhä–Luosto fell range rise majestically from the surrounding wetlands and forests, with Ukko-Luosto (514 m) standing proudly as the third highest.

Climb to the summit of Ukko-Luosto to admire the views in the golden glow of the midnight sun. Along the way, you’ll encounter impressive sights such as the Ukko-Luosto stairs, the scenic viewing platform, and the Ukko-Luosto Scenic hut.
Pyhä–Luosto is an excellent holiday destination for travellers with family and pets, offering pet-friendly accommodation and services.

Landscapes Shaped by the Ice Age Tell Their Story

The uniqueness of Luosto is also reflected in its history. The fells are remnants of one of the world’s oldest mountain ranges, and at the Lampivaara Amethyst Mine you can quite literally touch ancient eras — you can dig up an amethyst millions of years old, straight from the fell. More stories about the area’s geology and natural heritage can be discovered along the Luosto nature trail and, on the Pyhä side, at the Naava Visitor Centre.

Luosto is also known for its ancient forests, whose silence and untouched beauty impress even seasoned hikers. Four-hundred‑year‑old trees rise calmly around you, and human traces are rare along the paths. The Siberian jay (the signature bird of our national park)  — often called "the forest’s angel" — may appear at a lean‑to shelter, drawn by the scent of a campfire, especially near the Lampivaara Café. It serves as a natural resting point both for visitors heading to the amethyst mine and for mountain bikers riding toward the forests and gorge valley of Rykimäkero.

In Pyhä–Luosto, nature is not just a backdrop for adventure. It is part of the experience — of learning, well‑being and presence — in every step, every breath.

Experience Local Life – Happiness Lives in the Rhythm of Nature

Pyhä–Luosto lives through its local people: their traditions, stories and warm, down‑to‑earth northern hospitality. Here you experience genuine Lapland — a way of life that follows the rhythm of nature. Local restaurants make use of regional products and ingredients in their menus. We want future generations to enjoy Luosto’s unique nature as well, which is why we are committed to developing the area responsibly.

In the summer, you can visit Jaakkola Reindeer Farm, where you’ll meet local reindeer herders, learn about their traditions and daily life, and hear stories passed down through generations. Guided national park excursions led by Kairankutsu and Arctic Horizons offer another way to immerse yourself in the region’s nature and culture. Their expert guides share insights into the landscape, wildlife and life in Lapland — connecting you with the area on a deeper level.
After an active day outdoors, the Amethyst Spa and the Finnish sauna invite you to relax and unwind in true Nordic style.
More activities can be found within a short, under 30‑minute drive, at the other end of Tunturitie Road in Pyhä. For example, reaching the top of Kultakero is easy there, thanks to the scenic chairlift.
