Join us for a peaceful walk through an authentic Lappish village, along forest paths and quiet village. Enjoy nature, silence and moments to pause. The experience ends by the fire in a kota hut with warm drinks, grilled sausages and homemade pastries. A genuine connection to yourself, others and nature. Duration in Seipäjärvi: approx. 2.5 h.

At Kopara Reindeer Park, you can explore the reindeer trail independently and learn about the life of reindeer. Along the trail, you'll find information boards about the reindeer’s year and food you can offer them. Ticket: €12/person, available at Restaurant Kopara. Open daily from 11:00 to 16:00.

Lunch tour is a diverse way to visit our reindeer farm, enjoy the sleigh ride and try out some local food.

Tour starts from the reindeer corral, where we feed the reindeer and take lovely selfies with the antlered icons of Lapland. After the feeding session we hop into the sleighs and get ready for relishing the serenity of sleeping nature. In a halfway we stop by a wilderness “lávvu” to enjoy tasty reindeer soup lunch, homemade bread and coffee with sweet buns. While enjoying the lunch, your host share interesting facts and tales about reindeer and reindeer herder´s life.

After the lunch break your host leads the reindeer caravan back to farm through the frozen swamps and forests, where you can enjoy a postcard scenery and healing silence beyond.

Meeting point and time: Jaakkola reindeer farm, 10 minutes before excursion departure

Your visit begins with a peaceful 1 km sleigh ride ( 10 minutes) around the spacious reindeer fence – a perfect way to unwind and connect with the nature. After the calming sleigh ride you get to greed and feed the reindeer with your local guide.

To top off your visit, you´ll gather around a warm fire in a traditional Lappish kota hut and enjoy delicious fresh buns and hot berry juice while listening to captivating stories about reindeer herding traditions.

Reindeer caravan is led by your farm hosts, so you may just open your senses and enjoy the serenity. Normally two persons share one sleigh. We provide wool blankets, but not winter clothing.

Ice Fishing Trip in the Authentic Old Lappish Village of Seipäjärvi, Sodankylä

I pick you by car from your accommodation in Luosto, and we head for the nearby river. Once on the ice, we drill holes with an ice drill, and start fishing... results are usually quite good in this place. There is also a small open shelter close-by, where we can have a fire and stay confortable. We will have some hot drinks, grill the famous finnish sausage and enjoy a local pastry. (I usually take some spices with me in case we want to taste our catch!). The time schedule for this program vary depending on the daylight (rod fishing depends quite a lot on daylight), but usually, the program start between 9 to 11 am.

During this trip, beside learning the basics of forest ski techniques, we will discover the frozen swamps, peatlands, and the arctic wet forest areas around Luosto. (swamp edges are usually quite rich in fauna, so willow grouses, black grouses, and arctic hares are not an uncommon sight).

I pick you from the location of your choice in Luosto, and we just head for the national park... In Finland, we believe strongly in "learning-by-doing", and we will just put the skis on, and start our trip. Of course, the trip will be adapted to the level of the participants (Note : again, those skis are NOT downhill skis! they are similar in their use as classic style crosscountry skis, except that we go off-track. We don't chase steep slopes or adrenalin!!). At some point during our hike, we will have a break and make a fire in order to grill the famous Finnish sausage (aka the vegetable of the real finnish man) and to enjoy a warm drink and traditional pastry.

The whole program last 3 hours, but the distance will vary a lot depending on the snow condition ( in the deep powder snow of January, 3-4 km can be already a challenge, and on the hard morning crust of April, 10km can feel really easy)...

This program has been devised in order to combine the use of our "forest skis" and of snowshoes during the same trip.

I pick you from your hotel/cabin in Luosto, and we head for Pyhä-Luosto national park. During this trip, we will use the snowshoes in the steepest uphills, or if we meet some dense forest, but as soon as the terrain gets more flat or downhill, we'll put on the skis.

It takes only 1-2 minutes to change from one to the other, and you don't need to change shoes, because both our skiis and snowshoes are equipped with universal bindings (you can use regular hiking boots).

What is really good, is that if somebody feels uncomfortable with the skiis whenever we go downhill, it is possible to switch back to snowshoes, and have a slower descent! Note that, anyway, we will not do any extreme downhills ... The "forest skis" and the bindings are not adapted to free ride and crazy fast downhills !! This program is perfectly adapted for beginners, just let me know before, so I can adapt our trip to your tastes !

At some point during our trip, we stop around an open fire in order to grill the famous Finnish sausage, a traditional lappish pastry, and some hot drinks.

Duration : around 3,5 hours.

Includes : Private guide services, snowshoeing/skiing gear, "hot berry juice break" during our trip, light snack in a wilderness cafeteria at the end of our trip.

Important ! Each participant has to come with a backpack equipped with straps for carrying own skis/snowshoes!
