Both the snowmobile trails in Luosto and Pyhä are interconnected, offering well-maintained routes that cater to both beginners and more experienced riders. Pyhä-Luosto's surroundings boast over 300 km of trails for day trips. From Pyhä-Luosto, you can extend your journey to nearest Municipalities Sodankylä, Rovaniemi, Kemijärvi, or even Savukoski.

You can conveniently view the snowmobile trails in the Pyhä-Luosto area on Retkikartta.fi. Note that tracks and official routes are not separately marked on the map. The service also provides information on Pyhä-Luosto area trails.

For maintenance information on snowmobile trails, refer to the digital trail map. Trail map cost 10 €.

What i need to know before?

  • The maximum allowed speed on the route is 60 km/h. 
  • On ice-covered water areas, the maximum permitted speed is 80 km/h. 
  • When towing a sleigh carrying passengers, the maximum allowed speed is 40 km/h.
  •  A protective helmet must be worn at all times while snowmobiling. The helmet requirement also applies to those under 15 years old. 
  • The driver of the snowmobile is responsible for ensuring that underage individuals wear helmets.
  • Traffic regulations are observed on snowmobile trails. 
  • The driver of a snowmobile is required to have a driver's license.

Snowmobile tracks in Pyhä-Luosto

In Pyhä-Luosto, you'll find various trails of different lengths for day trips in the fells.

Aurora Route around Luosto and Pyhä, 94-106 kilometers

The Aurora Route, circling the Pyhä and Luosto Fells, has a length of approximately 94 km. By taking the Orresokka detour, the total distance extends to 106 km. Along the route, there are two designated fire sites, Poisionpalo Lean-to Shelter, and Siurunsuu Kota. In the vicinity of the snowmobile route between Pyhä and Luosto, you'll find Reindeer restaurant Kopara, an excellent rest stop for longer journeys. The only refueling point in the area is at K-Market Pyhätunturi in the Pyhä shopping center.

Luosto Center to Pyhä Center snowmobiling track, 33 km (one way)

Starting from the center of Luosto, the route departs from next to Restaurant Punakettu or from the yard of Hartsuntie, in front of Restaurant Vaisko. This is generally the most frequently traveled snowmobile track in Pyhä-Luosto, as local safari companies such as Lapland safaris Luosto and Pyhäsafaris operate snowmobile safaris along this route. Similar to the Aurora Route, Reindeer restaurant Kopara serves as a convenient rest stop for longer journeys between Pyhä and Luosto. Rreindeer soup is served daily during the seasons. The restaurant also sells tickets for the Kopara reindeer park, where visitors can feed the reindeer. From Kopara the track leads in the Pyhä shopping center, which is also the only refueling point in the area.

Half day snowshoeing trip - Arctic Horizons

This trip is particularly suitable for a family with children, or for people who want to enjoy the lappish wilderness without making it too "extreme".

I pick you from the location off your choice in Luosto, and we head for a 3 hours snowshoeing trip in the boreal forest around Luosto. Snowshoes are easy to use, and let us go off the beaten tracks. They are also relatively silent, and as we travel in very small group, the chance of seeing wildlife is real.

At some point during our trip, we'll have a break at a Laavu (lean-to-shelter), where you will discover the world famous finnish sausage ( a.k.a the vegetable of the real finnish man) grilled by yourself on the open fire. We'll also enjoy hot drinks and some pastry, before heading home. Maybe some friendly hosts of this woods will pay us a visit to share our food...

DURATION : about 3 hours

INCLUDES : private guide services, snowshoeing equipment, hot drinks, sausages and cookies.

Half day snowshoeing and skiing trip - Arctic Horizons

This program has been devised in order to combine the use of our "forest skis" and of snowshoes during the same trip.

I pick you from your hotel/cabin in Luosto, and we head for Pyhä-Luosto national park. During this trip, we will use the snowshoes in the steepest uphills, or if we meet some dense forest, but as soon as the terrain gets more flat or downhill, we'll put on the skis.

It takes only 1-2 minutes to change from one to the other, and you don't need to change shoes, because both our skiis and snowshoes are equipped with universal bindings (you can use regular hiking boots).

What is really good, is that if somebody feels uncomfortable with the skiis whenever we go downhill, it is possible to switch back to snowshoes, and have a slower descent! Note that, anyway, we will not do any extreme downhills ... The "forest skis" and the bindings are not adapted to free ride and crazy fast downhills !! This program is perfectly adapted for beginners, just let me know before, so I can adapt our trip to your tastes !

At some point during our trip, we stop around an open fire in order to grill the famous Finnish sausage, a traditional lappish pastry, and some hot drinks.

Duration : around 3,5 hours.

Includes : Private guide services, snowshoeing/skiing gear, "hot berry juice break" during our trip, light snack in a wilderness cafeteria at the end of our trip.

Important ! Each participant has to come with a backpack equipped with straps for carrying own skis/snowshoes!
